European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.

For our Detectors Mechanics Engineering and Technical Team, we are looking for a

Student Assistant (f/m/d) Detectors - 20h/week

The Position
Support the Detector Group Engineers, Technicians and Scientists in everday tasks and activities, such as:
  • Organizing storage in the clean room, including cleaning of components for clean room compatibility,
  • Organizing storage space for existing detector components and test stand pieces, as well as spare parts,
  • Helping to organize the inventory of detector parts and spare parts,
  • Supporting the group in administrative issues.
Depending on the individual background, you may also help with project-related tasks, such as:
  • Mechanics and component design,
  • Small mechanics/electronics assemblies and tests,
  • Activities with regard to component qualification and quality control,
  • Data handling, data taking and basic analysis of detector data.
Requirements
  • Enrolled Bachelor or Master student in Physics or Engineering
  • Good English knowledge
  • Interest in working with detectors, electronics and vacuum systems
  • Experience with MS Word and Excel
  • Well-organized and motivated to join an international team
  • Experience with CAD software, vacuum systems or clean rooms would be an asset

This position is initially limited to 1 year, with the option of extension by 1 year based on later decision.
