European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany.
It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in
physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse
scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide
range of experimental techniques.
For our Management Board Office Group we are looking for an
The Position
- Develop, in collaboration with stakeholders across the organization, European XFEL's first sustainability strategy by identifying priorities, benchmarking international best practices and recommending areas for future action.
- Establish and coordinate the sustainability reporting framework and prepare European XFEL's sustainability report.
- Coordinate the collection and analysis of sustainability-related data and monitor relevant sustainability legislation, reporting standards and best practices.
- Support the integration of sustainability into campus development, facility upgrades and operational activities by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Coordinate sustainability initiatives across the organization, promote awareness and engagement, and represent European XFEL in national and international sustainability networks.
- Prepare reports, presentations and briefing material for management, committees and other stakeholders.
Requirements
- Completed academic degree in Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in sustainability management, reporting or a comparable field.
- In-depth knowledge of sustainability reporting standards and frameworks; familiarity with ESG-related frameworks is an advantage.
- Sound Understanding of sustainability challenges relevant to research infrastructures or comparable scientific or technical organizations.
- Strong analytical, conceptional, organizational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate activities across different disciplines.
- Excellent written and spoken English; German is an advantage.

Salary and benefits are similar to those of public service organizations in Germany, this includes for example:
- Salary range: min. PG 12/1 with 4,415.70€ - max. PG 13/6 with 7,025.87€, the actual level is defined by the individual work experience, here is the link to the current valid tariff table
