European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.

For our SQS group we are looking for an

Instrument Scientist (f/m/d)

The Position
  • Operation and maintenance of 2D imaging detectors
  • Support and development of coherent diffraction imaging experiments on clusters, nano-particles and biomolecules
  • Operation, maintenance and development of sample delivery sources for clusters and nanoparticles
  • Active participation in the broad science program at the SQS instrument
  • Development of individual research activities at the European XFEL
  • Support and consultation to instrument users for their experimental campaign
Requirements
  • PhD in physics or an equivalent academic degree
  • Experience with coherent diffraction imaging methods
  • Experience in handling and operation of cluster and nanoparticles sources and/or liquid jets
  • Motivation to participate in the operation of an experimental station enabling forefront research at Free Electron Lasers
  • Substantial knowledge of data acquisition and data processing tools
  • Good communication skills in English
