European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. For our SQS group we are looking for an

Scientist in Ultrafast Spectroscopy (f/m/d)

The Position
  • Simulation and optimization of diagnostic tools for the characterization of sub-fs UV/DUV pulses
  • Implementation and commissioning of diagnostic tools for the characterization of ultrashort UV/DUV
  • Development of on-line characterization procedures for ultrashort UV/DUV and X-ray pulses
  • Participation in the integration of the new set-up into the existing environment of the SQS instrument
  • Leading participation in experimental campaigns exploring the ultrashort UV/DUV pulses
  • Active participation in the broad science program at the SQS instrument
Requirements
  • PhD in physics or an equivalent academic degree
  • Proven experience with femtosecond optical lasers including set-ups for high-intensity/ultrashort pulses.
  • Additional experience with ultrashort mid-infrared/terahertz lasers and optical parametric amplifiers are a benefit
  • Proven experience in simulation of optical systems of ultrashort laser pulses
  • Experience with time-resolved pump-probe experiments and laser-based spectroscopy
  • Practical knowledge of UHV technologies and/or practical experience at large scale facilities (e.g. SR, FEL) would be a benefit
  • Knowledge of programming languages, Matlab, C++ or Python
