European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany.
It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in
physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse
scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide
range of experimental techniques.
For our SPB/SFX group we are looking for a
The Position
- Design experiments utilising and characterising the world’s first X-ray free-electron laser oscillator (XFELO)
- Design experiments to take advantage of new Hard X-ray self seeding (HXSS) capabilities at the SASE1 undulator
- Collaborate with external groups to develop additional scientific goals resulting from the new capabilities
- Support user experiments, especially in the areas of x-ray quantum optics and novel X-ray microscopies
- Characterise and optimise existing x-ray optical schemes (KB mirror and CRL based)
Requirements
- PhD in experimental physics, coherent optics, x-ray imaging, or a related field
- Good knowledge of x-ray diffraction physics, and/or other techniques such as coherent optics or crystallography
- Previous experience of experiments at synchrotron or FEL facilities
- Familiarity with optical laser systems is an asset
- Ability to conduct independent research while also contributing to ongoing team projects
- Motivation to work in a diverse, international team of scientists, engineers and technicians
