European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany.
It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in
physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse
scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide
range of experimental techniques.
For our HED group we are looking for a
The Position
- Participating in R&D studies of experimental setup for combined PDF and XES at high photon energy
- Study Fe-bearing samples at extreme conditions using X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques
- Participation in developing dynamic compression experiments at the HED Science Instrument at European XFEL, including shock diagnostics (SOP and VISAR)
- Preparation of PhD thesis and participation in the PhD program of European XFEL
Requirements
- University/Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences (Mineralogy/Geochemistry) or equivalent qualification Experience with synchrotron radiation experiments, X-ray diffraction/spectroscopy is beneficial
- Hands-on experience in experimental setup design/installation/commissioning
- Interest in high-pressure experiments (diamond anvil cells or dynamic compression)
- Eligible to enroll in the PhD program at the TU Dortmund University
- Good communication skills and ability to work in an international and multi-disciplinary team
- Good knowledge of English
