For our HED group, we are looking for an

Post-Doc for Experiments with High Photon Energies

The Position
  • Contribute to and participate in internal research projects using high photon energy X-rays (20-30 keV) at the SASE2 beamline of the European XFEL.
  • Collaborate with international research groups and user consortia.
  • Support the operation of the HED (and MID) instruments, including assisting instrument scientists during user experiments and participating in shift work.
  • Plan and conduct R&D on X-ray diffraction methods and applications at photon energies above 20 keV, with a focus on dynamic (laser-driven shock) and/or static (diamond anvil cell) compression techniques.
  • Advise and support user groups in the preparation and execution of their experiments.
Requirements
  • PhD degree in experimental physics or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Expertise in diamond anvil cell (DAC) techniques and/or laser-driven shock experiments, including relevant setups and diagnostics.
  • Solid knowledge of X-ray techniques at high photon energies, particularly X-ray diffractions (XRD) from crystalline and amorphous materials.
  • Experience with pair distribution function (PDF) analysis and the study of melt structures at high pressures is an advantage.
  • Strong motivation to work on cutting-edge scientific projects in a highly competent and collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multi-lingual, multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Structured, self-motivated and independent working style.
