European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. For our SCS group we are looking for a

Postdoctoral Scientist for Spintronics Devices

The Position
  • Perform X-ray pump - THz-emission probe experiments to measure relative arrival time between the X-ray and optical laser pulses using an existing apparatus to improve the time resolution of user experiments
  • Coordinate with SCS scientists to run the timing experiment simultaneously with user experiments 
  • Analyse data from the timing experiment
  • Propose, implement and test improvements to the existing apparatus for sensitivity, reliability and ease-of-use
  • Work with SCS engineers to develop a new apparatus
  • Commission the new apparatus
Requirements
  • PhD in physics or an equivalent academic degree
  • Experience with femtosecond optical lasers, and/or THz radiation
  • Experience with pump-probe experiments
  • Practical knowledge of UHV technologies 
  • Experience at large scale facility (e.g. SR, FEL) would be an asset
