European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany.
It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in
physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse
scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide
range of experimental techniques.

The Position
The Information Management Student Assistant will assist primarily in publications tasks, as well as assisting in the archive as required.
Publications:
- Assist in keeping European XFEL’s Publication Database up-to-date by tracking and inputting publications by the facility’s staff, guests, and users.
- Communicate with European XFEL authors about their publications.
- Improve and update metadata in the database.
- Assist in the management of user accounts and authority records in the database.
Archives:
- Assist in the digital archiving of European XFEL’s internal communications platform.
- Support the Information Manager in other archive tasks as required (such as preparing paper records for disposal, collecting paper records to be transferred to the archive).
Requirements
- Ongoing studies in archives and records management, library management, or information management in the Hamburg area.
- Excellent attention to detail and organized approach to work.
- When working in the archive, ideally the successful candidate will be able to help move boxes of records (weighing up to 10 -15 kg), push a trolley, and climb a ladder.
- Experience working with databases.
- Confidence in writing emails in English.

Duration
This position is limited to 2 years.
