European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. For the Horizon Europe project ELBEX (Extracted Lepton Beam) at the European XFEL we are looking for a

Scientist (f/m/d)

The Position
You will be the coordinator of the ELBEX project (Extracted Lepton Beam) at the European XFEL. ELBEX is a Horizon Europe project funded by the European Union to develop and implement a new kind of research instrument. It shall expand the application of European XFEL to the usage of the high energy electron beam and it exquisite properties. To this goal the details of how to implement such an instrument, its layout as well how to operate the instrument in collaboration with external partners need to be worked out.

Specific tasks will be:
  • Coordination of European XFEL tasks within ELBEX project
  • Develop and deepen science case for potential ELBEX instrument, potentially get involved in specific science topics
  • Clarify and develop technical aspects of ELBEX integration
  • Communicate with ELBEX consortium and relevant external collaborators
  • Manage the ELBEX project at European XFEL
Requirements
  • PhD in Physics or a related field
  • Scientific background in x-ray, accelerator or laser physics
  • Proven experience with project management (at least 1 yr, 1-2 formalized projects)
  • Experience in managing EU funded projects and being familiar with corresponding rules and obligations is considered as an asset
  • Good to excellent communication skills
