European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany.
It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in
physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse
scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide
range of experimental techniques.
For our Detector group we are looking for an
The Position
- Characterisation and calibration of X-ray detectors at the European XFEL, with focus on the calibration of the currently installed JUNGFRAU detectors and the test and characterization of the upcoming new JUNGFRAU prototype:
- Participation in setup and optimisation of detector calibration and characterisation systems
- Partecipation in scientific experiments aimed at testing the new JUNGFRAU detector performances
- Data analysis aimed at detector calibration, characterisation, and optimisation
- Development of ad-hoc algorithms for detector characterization and calibration
- Supporting and consulting beamline scientists and the detector developers on calibration and characterisation related issues
- Making use and further developing the calibration infrastructure for the detectors used at XFEL
- Taking an active role in the user support provided to the instruments by the Data Department
Requirements
- PhD in physics or an equivalent experience
- Experience in calibration and characterisation of advanced silicon X-ray and/or particle detectors is an asset
- Experience in detector operation and usage at a light source is considered as an asset
- Knowledge about detector front-end electronics and of a programming language like Python is an asset
- Experience with detector or vacuum setup integration is an asset
- Experience with simulation of detector response to X-rays is an asset
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a structured way in a culturally diverse and multi-disciplinary team with
- English as working language
