European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.

For our Sample Environment and Characterisation group we are looking for an

Electronic Technician (f/m/d)

The Position
  • Design and build electronic components and assemblies
  • Hardware design and programming of PLCs (Beckhoff) to control sample delivery devices
  • Participate in high-level programming of control front-ends (Python)
  • Ensure electrical safety in the group within the company’s electrical safety structure
  • Support experts in repair and maintenance of lab devices in the user laboratories
  • Support the group in simple mechanical work in the workshops
  • Maintain a contact to specialist groups in electronics and software
Requirements
  • Certified technician or similar qualification with proven experience in mechatronic, electronic or equivalent (eg. German “Meister” or “ staatlich geprüfter Techniker”)
  • Experience with electronic lab devices such as function generators, oscilloscopes, amplifiers
  • Knowledge in PLC programming ( Beckhoff Automation)
  • Knowledge in at least one programming language ( Python, C++)
  • Experience with vacuum components would be an asset
  • Open and flexible mindset
